Give your child a wider world of possibilities. At Canadian International School (CIS) in Singapore, English-medium secondary education combines academic challenge with creativity, independent thinking and international connection. From the IB Middle Years Programme to senior-school university preparation, students can discover their strengths and build the confidence to take their next step.

Find the right school journey with Asia Pathway. Whether your family is relocating to Singapore or exploring an overseas secondary education, we can help you compare academic routes, understand English readiness and discuss day-school or optional external boarding arrangements.

Why choose CIS for secondary school?

  • Follow the IB Middle Years Programme in Grades 7–10 and explore the IB Diploma in Grades 11–12.
  • Learn mainly in English, with languages forming part of a broad international curriculum.
  • Consider a distinct Extended Pathway combining IB courses, AP courses and accredited online electives.
  • Develop interests through arts, sport, STEAM, service and leadership.
  • Receive guidance with subject choices, school transition and university planning.
  • Explore optional off-campus boarding through ACS Oldham Hall, subject to separate acceptance.

Your secondary-school pathway at a glance

Location: CIS Lakeside campus, 7 Jurong West Street 41, Singapore.

School stages: Grades 7–10: IB Middle Years Programme. Grades 11–12: IB Diploma or an individually planned Extended Pathway.

Teaching language: English is the main language of instruction; language subjects involve their respective languages. The appropriate language and subject combination depends on placement and availability.

Study arrangement: Day school, with optional boarding at an independent off-campus residence. Entry grade and study length depend on previous schooling, school assessment and available places.

Grades 7–10: build a strong academic foundation

Connect classroom learning with the world around you. The MYP develops knowledge across eight subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Design, and Physical and Health Education. Students learn to investigate questions, connect ideas across disciplines and apply their understanding in meaningful contexts.

Grow into a more independent learner. Communication, collaboration, research, organisation and reflection develop alongside academic study. Service as Action encourages students to contribute to their communities, while the Grade 10 Personal Project gives them an opportunity to investigate an interest and demonstrate initiative.

Grades 11–12: the full IB Diploma

Prepare for university through depth and breadth. The two-year IB Diploma combines six subjects at Higher and Standard Level with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Students develop subject expertise while practising research, critical thinking and sustained independent work.

Shape subject choices around future ambitions. The wider subject offering spans languages, mathematics, sciences, humanities and the arts. Asia Pathway can help your family prepare questions about suitable combinations and university prerequisites before the school confirms the final programme. Subject availability, entry readiness and successful completion requirements apply.

An alternative senior route: the Extended Pathway

Explore a programme tailored to individual strengths. CIS also offers an Extended Pathway combining selected IB courses, Advanced Placement courses and accredited online high-school electives. This leads towards the WASC-accredited CIS High School Diploma, subject to fulfilling the school’s graduation requirements.

Choose with the next destination in mind. The Extended Pathway is not the full IB Diploma and should be evaluated against the requirements of each intended university. Available courses, online delivery, examination arrangements and any additional charges should be confirmed before enrolment. Neither route guarantees university admission.

Discover more than academic achievement

Create, perform, compete and contribute. Arts, sport, STEAM, outdoor learning, service and leadership offer opportunities to explore interests and build confidence. Specialist facilities include gymnasiums, theatres, swimming pools, a sports field and a digital recording studio. Activities and access depend on grade, timetable and availability; selected activities and trips may carry additional charges.

English readiness, wellbeing and university guidance

A successful transition starts with the right placement. Eligible students can receive assessed English-language learning support through Grade 10. Students entering Grade 11 need academic English proficiency, as ELL support is not offered in Grades 11–12. Students needing a more intensive English bridge can ask Asia Pathway about separately assessed Foundation options.

Plan for the individual, not just the grade. Advisory, pastoral care, counselling and assessed learning support help students participate in school life. Families should disclose relevant support needs early so the school can assess provision. University counselling supports future choices, subject planning and applications.

Optional boarding at ACS Oldham Hall

Build independence within a supervised residential setting. CIS introduces ACS Oldham Hall as an option for eligible students aged 12 and above. Located on Barker Road, it is an independent off-campus residence, not a CIS dormitory. Residential staff provide pastoral supervision, and the published arrangements include structured weekday evening study, activities and school-bus transport organised by the residence.

School and boarding are separate arrangements. Admission to CIS does not secure a room. Contact Asia Pathway to check residential eligibility, available places, room options, meals, holiday arrangements, transport, caregiver requirements and the complete boarding quotation. No boarding price is included in the displayed tuition figure.

Tuition per semester — USD planning estimates

  • Grades 7–10: approximately USD 19,997 per semester.
  • Grades 11–12: approximately USD 20,879 per semester. The displayed price uses Grade 12 tuition as the reference.

Additional charges: application approximately USD 781; first-child confirmation approximately USD 4,293; and one-time facilities approximately USD 3,356. Where assessed as necessary, English-language learning support in Grades 7–10 is approximately USD 3,707 per semester. Other learning support may also be charged.

Plan the full budget with us. Tuition estimates include applicable GST and exclude boarding, transport, meals, uniforms, examinations, certain activities and other separately charged services. Fees are invoiced in Singapore dollars; the USD figures are rounded planning conversions and change with exchange rates. Ask Asia Pathway for a current written quotation, payment terms and refund conditions before committing.

Entry and application preparation

Start with the right grade and academic route. Applications are assessed individually using previous schooling, English readiness and the required documents. Families typically prepare recent school reports, identity documents and relevant support assessments. The school may require English assessment and further information before confirming placement.

Check entry timing before making travel plans. Availability and admission windows differ by grade, particularly for the IB Diploma. Do not assume direct Grade 12 transfer is available. Asia Pathway can help clarify the suitable entry point, document checklist and any assessment before you submit an application.

About the Institution

Canadian International School (CIS)

Canadian International School (CIS)

Lakeside, Jurong West, Singapore

An international education in Singapore

Help your child grow in confidence, curiosity and ambition. Canadian International School (CIS) brings together an international community at its Lakeside campus in western Singapore. Founded in 1990, the school combines Canadian heritage with an International Baccalaureate education, welcoming learners from Nursery through Grade 12. Asia Pathway can help your family explore a suitable entry stage and plan the next step.

A connected IB learning journey

Build strong foundations before specialising. The Primary Years Programme runs from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6, the Middle Years Programme covers Grades 7–10, and the Diploma Programme is offered in Grades 11–12. Inquiry, independent thinking, communication and learning across cultures connect these stages. CIS follows an international curriculum, rather than a Canadian provincial curriculum.

Prepare for university with a pathway that fits. The full IB Diploma combines subject study with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. CIS also offers an Extended Pathway combining selected IB courses, Advanced Placement courses and accredited online high-school electives towards the WASC-accredited CIS High School Diploma. The Extended Pathway is distinct from the full IB Diploma; subject choices, graduation requirements and university suitability should be reviewed individually.

Language learning with wider possibilities

Explore English-medium and bilingual education. Chinese–English bilingual provision extends from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6, while French–English bilingual provision extends from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. For international families, these options create opportunities to develop language skills alongside a broad primary education. Places, language readiness and any required support are assessed by the school.

Find the right bridge into mainstream learning. Foundation and English-language learning support help eligible students develop academic English and classroom confidence. Placement, phase eligibility and duration depend on assessment. Support arrangements differ by grade, and English-language learning support should not be assumed to continue into Grades 11–12. Contact Asia Pathway to clarify the appropriate route before applying.

Create, compete and discover

Make room for strengths beyond examinations. CIS combines academic study with arts, sport, STEAM, outdoor learning, service and leadership opportunities. The campus includes specialist learning spaces, two gymnasiums, two theatres, three swimming pools, a sports field, a digital recording studio and a 2,400-square-metre Outdoor Discovery Centre. Activities and facility access depend on age, programme and the school schedule; some opportunities involve additional charges.

Support for school life and the next stage

Develop independence with guidance. Advisory, pastoral care, counselling and individually assessed learning support help students adapt and engage with their studies. University counselling supports subject planning and applications. These services help families make informed choices, while admission, examination results and university offers remain individual outcomes.

Optional boarding through an external partner

Explore a residential arrangement without confusing it with on-campus housing. CIS introduces ACS Oldham Hall as an off-campus boarding option for eligible students aged 12 and above. The residence is at Barker Road, separate from the Lakeside teaching campus, with residential supervision, structured study and organised transport arrangements. Boarding has its own admission process, availability, fees and conditions. CIS does not operate an on-campus dormitory, and a school offer does not secure a boarding place.

Life around Lakeside

Study near green spaces and western Singapore’s amenities. The school is at 7 Jurong West Street 41, Singapore 649414. Lakeside and Chinese Garden MRT stations provide East–West Line connections, while Jurong Lake Gardens, Science Centre Singapore and the Jurong East area offer options for family outings and independent exploration. Attractions are not automatically included excursions.

Use the map as a planning reference. The points of interest show approximate straight-line distances from the mapped school address, not walking distances, road journeys or travel times. The Jurong Lake Gardens reference is its northern activity area at 100 Yuan Ching Road; the airport reference is Terminal 3.
